Quote for the Day

“After Job had prayed for his friends…”

Today's Prayer

This week pray for YOU and YOUR relationship with God. Ask God to show you how to fear Him and shun evil. Ask God to give you the type of relationship Job had with Him.

Job 42:1-6,10a

Job 42:1-6,10a (NIV)1 Then Job replied to the LORD :2 “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’5 My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.

Message

This week ends our study of Job. The real lesson I hope we have all learned is how the character of God is displayed through Job. Job was considered by God to be a man who was blameless and upright. And how did he get there? Because he feared God and shunned evil. What were the qualities that showed his relationship with God? I believe chapter 42, verses 1 through 6 show this. “Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes,” followed up by praying for his friends. That was Job’s prayer: humbly repentant before God and praying for God to bless his friends. Job truly feared God and shunned evil; he sought God’s will and God’s will alone; his character and life showed it every day.In recent years another prayer has become popular. It is a prayer that focuses on “me” and expanding “my” territory. I believe there is a reason that this prayer was an obscure verse mixed in among the chronicles of the family tree of . Jabez was focused on what God could do for Jabez. Yes, God granted the request of Jabez (exactly how, we are not fully aware), but how can that compare to the relationship Job had with God? Nothing, including the earthly blessings God granted Job at the end of his life come close to the relationship between God and Job and the joy found in it. Job was focused on God’s will, no matter what the results. That is what created the joy in Job’s life. This week bring yourself before God Almighty and ask Him to show you His will. Be humble and respectful of His desire and will, and submit your all to Him alone.
