Quote for the Day
“Honor your father and your mother…”
Today's Prayer
This week make your prayers those of thanksgiving to God for all He has done. Thank Him for the glory of His creation and the world He has given you. Thank God for His protection and love for those whose family members are traveling.
Deuteronomy 5:12-16
Deuteronomy 5: 12-1612 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do. 15 Remember that you were slaves in and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.16 “Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
Message
We have seen the jealous but protective and loving nature of God as we have looked at the first three commands. Now we begin to see the personal nature of God draw us even closer to Him to our family. The fourth and fifth commands are both about respect. We respect God for what He has done: He is OUR creator and loving father, but He is ALSO the Creator of the Universe! It is this fact that we so many times ignore. We are focused on what is not happening or all the worries and concerns we have, when God says to simply stop and focus on what He has already accomplished. This will allow us to have total assurance that what HE wants accomplished WILL happen!God’s provision is further emphasized when He tells us to honor our parents. If we all did this, what a truly better world we would have (especially for the parents of teens!) Seriously, in His wisdom God is trying to remind us that the basics to a better life are found in honoring others, starting with Him and our parents. In following His command to honor our parents, He promises a long and peaceful life, quite a blessing. This week take a moment to honor both God and your parents. In doing so, God’s blessings will be yours!
