Quote for the Day

“Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”

Today's Prayer

This week pray for those traveling that they can see the awesome wonder of God’s creation in the earth. Ask God to allow those at home to focus on what He has created that surrounds them rather than the missing pieces of their day.

Job chapters 25 and 26

Job chapters 25 and 26 (NIV)Job 25Bildad1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:2 “Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven.3 Can his forces be numbered? Upon whom does his light not rise?4 How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?5 If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes,6 how much less man, who is but a maggot— a son of man, who is only a worm!”Job 26Job1 Then Job replied:2 “How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!3 What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!4 Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?5 “The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.6 Death is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.7 He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.8 He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.9 He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it.10 He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness.11 The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke.12 By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces.13 By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent.14 And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”

Message

Chapters 25 and 26 begin the deep (as if we were in shallow ground prior to this!) discussions about the power and might of God. It is also the last we hear from Job’s three friends, though a fourth, silent until now, speaks up soon. Here we begin to really explore in detail the dichotomy of God, His absolute power and might, and His desire to have a relationship…with US! This I believe is the life story of Job. A simple man, a man who had many and varied circumstances from an earthly view, yet a man who had a deep relationship with God Almighty. This is the reason for this book, so that we can all see not only how powerful God is, but how intimate He wants to be with us.Bildad begins with a majestic comment, “Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven.” What a beautiful description of God and His power! We need to see God in this light to help see, however faintly it might be, the wisdom of His decisions. However, Bildad ends with comments about the worthlessness of man and God’s lack of concern or care for man. While he is certainly correct in his statement about the unrighteousness of man, God does have care and concern for man, FAR above all other creation. This concern is expressed in the gospels and is the reason for His Son to be sent to rescue mankind.Job begins in Chapter 25 to set the stage for describing God’s attributes, first by reminding Bildad (and us) about our lack of wisdom and power outside of God, and then by showing the spectrum of God’s power and works ending with the powerful statement, “Who then can understand the thunder of his power?” This week, read chapter 26 several times and then boldly ask God to show you His power not only among His creation around you, but in yourself as He created you.
